Other Ventures To Be Had
It is very early in my photographic career, and I career I hope it to be. I am currently in a creative crisis, trying to figure out what my “look” is, along with other more terrifying endeavors, like shooting The Waffle House culture. I remember reading Bill Watterson’s introduction of Calvin & Hobbes and explaining some of his more memorable comic strips. The one I remember identifying with the most is a scenario where Calvin begins to see his parents side. Calvin realizes how terrible it is that he can identify with what his dad is telling him to do, while still wanting his own way. Bill Watterson said he had a bad habit of seeing both sides of an issue and agreeing with both. Photographically, this is where I’m at. I think I’m over stimulated by the amount of photographers I look at, the wide range of styles, all of them so so well done. I want to do it all. I can’t do it all.
I am starting a wedding photography business with my sister-in-law. We are The Pinwheel Collective. The pinwheel is a metaphor for how a creative works. An idea comes along, spins your mind around and around, and what comes of that spinning is another creation of art. It also is a toy, a reminder that life shouldn’t be taken too seriously.
So, all that to say, Amy Schmid Photography is closing down shop. You can follow me at ameliaeschmid.tumblr.com for my personal work. Thanks for the follows!
